I'm moving the group discussion to its own thread, to make the other one easier to actually read.

SO: Next gaming session is, at the moment, not this coming weekend, but the next, Saturday July 7th, at 5-6 PM.

Just for future reference, directions to Gaite's house sitting job:

From which ever direction you guys are coming, take I-25 to the Garden of the Gods exit and head west. Take that until you come to 30th and turn left. Take that until you come to Mesa something (don't remember the full name, the lady was speaking fast when she herself was giving me directions) and turn left onto that. Take Mesa up the hill and around the crop circle into the Kissing Camels gated community. Stop at the gate and tell them that you are going to Ms. Gildea's and give your name. After the gate house take the first immeadiate right. The road will fork in front of you, you want to follow the left fork until you come to Rockbrook lane and turn right. Her address is 3070 Rockbrook. It should be the 4 (?)th house down on the right side.

Anything further about the gaming sessions that isn't writing or artwork can stay in here.

Okay, so here's the post I promised to make about the conversion(Especially since I heard Mark had asked about it.)

This is all the info I've posted to both RPG.net and the BW forum.

And even if you're not familiar with the world feel free to comment about BW

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
POST 1
So, I was sitting here mulling over various game ideas, including an old-school feelign BW game, when this idea grabbed ahold of the wheel(no pun intended) and wouldn't let go.
It came into my head that a perfect setting for the BW system would be Randland, aka The Wheel Of Time.
Seriously, the idea of beliefs and instincts is perfect for the setting, as is the ideas of Lifepaths and Stocks. And I'm pretty sure a magic system could be made to replicate Channelling and weaving almost perfectly, if one doesn't already exist.
Here's what I think would be needed to do this, in point form
Remove the Religious Subsetting
Remove all Religious and Wizardy lifepaths from other Settings
Add "The Spark" & Ta'veren traits
Add various LPs such as Blade Master, Gleeman and Thief-Taker
Add the White Tower Subsetting(Aes Sedai and Warders)
Add the Black Tower Subsetting
Add the Aiel setting
Add the Seanchan setting(Possibly a new Stock)
Add the Ogier Stock
Add a few specific LPs that lead into the White and Black Towers
Possibly create new Combat Actions based on the Sword Forms
Create the various Weaves
Maybe make a new "Weaving" category for magic to replicate the way weaving works. This can be done with a primary Channeling roll with FoRKs from each of the related Affinities(Which might be training skills?). Or I'm sure there's another, better way.
The Mannish stock is, for the most part, right on track except for the additions and subtractions listed above.
I'd also really like for there to be some way for where you're from culturally to effect your character without making settings for each. Maybe haveeach character have a Belief that references where you're from?
Hopefully in the coming weeks I will actually start posting some Lifepaths and rules mods.
I'm open to any and all comments and possible help. I think this could really be a cool use of the BW system and has gripped me harder than any of my previous jaunts into Modding BW.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
POST 2

Quick list of Lifepaths and Settings to be added

WHITE TOWER subsetting*
Novice
Accepted
Aes Sedai
Black Ajah
Mistress of Novices
Sitter Of The Tower
Keeper of the Flame
Amerlyn Seat
Youngling
Warder

*Just about any City Dweller LP can be used in conjunction with the White Tower subsetting as it relates to Tar Valon and the day-to-day operations of the Tower and the civilians involved therein

BLACK TOWER subsetting*
Soldier
Dedicated
Asha'Man

*Several Peasant LPs can be used in conjunction with the Black Tower subsetting as it relates to the day-to-day operations of the Tower and the civilians involved therein

AIEL setting
Born Aiel
Warrior
Wise One
Sept Chief
Clan Chief
Gai'Shain
Apprentice
Journeyman
Master Craftsman

OTHER
Gleeman*
Blademaster*
Thief-Taker(City)
Wolf-Brother(Outcast)
False Dragon(Outcast)

*Not sure which setting to put these under as they're not really setting-specific.

These ones will all be fairly simple to make, it's the Ogier Stock that's gonna be the tough one seeing as how very little of their Society is actually talked about in the books.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
POST 3
I worked up a lot of stuff while at work today.
Each Ajah is going to be a separate LP(Including Black) and will each grant different Skills and Traits, as well a resource discounts on certain Weaves(Though I'm not sure if the resource cost for Weaves works in WoT)
I added Darkfriend as an Outcast LP, as well as Wilder. Though I'm thinking Darkfriend may be better as a C-O Trait... that way it doesn't steal one of your precious LP slots. That way Anyone could have it without having to rewrite all the Leads. Maybe as a Call-On for Circles tests?
Atha'an Meire has been added as a Setting
I've also added a "Children of the Light" subsetting to replace the Religious subsetting
I'm also thinking that instead of having the Born LPs within the various settings there's a Born "Setting" that uses the various Cultures as determinating Time, Stats and Traits. Those LPs then lead into the Various settings that would be available to that Culture. That way their culture would have an impact on them from the start but not be effected by what type of Setting their living in. I like this mostly because in WoT a person's culture has a large impact on who they are, whether they're still in their Homeland or not.
Traits are currently sitting at:
The Spark
Innate Channeler
Ji'e'toh
Way of The Leaf
Bonded
Dark One's Own Luck
The Three Oaths
Sniffer
Dreamer
Old Blood
Viewer
Forteller
Aspect Affinity
And I tell you what, once again the WotC WoT RPG is showing it's usefulness.
I've also worked up a rough rule set for Channeling:
To Embrace/Seize: Will test at ob 4 (It shouldn't be too hard for an experienced character)
The Channel: Roll your Channeling Skill + Will against the OB of the Weave (Which is a base ob 2, +1ob for each aspect involved in the weaving, i.e. Balefire is an ob 7... that may sound high but wait).
Now here's the finicky part... I have to account for fatigue, which BW does, but I'm not sure if the standard Tax rules are appropriate for Channeling: After each casting the caster rolls their Forte at an OB of the spell's OB. If he fails failure below the OB is temporarily subtracted from his Forte until rendered unconcious. I'm just not sure if it works... I mean, you could fail a couple times on basic weaves due to bad rolls and suddenly be unconcious trying to cast "Bonding". Now maybe the issue is not with the Tax rules but with my OB system... Opinions?
Now I also had to figure out a way for a Channeler's strength in the Five Powers to come into play as it's a very important aspect of Channeling, and I think I've found a way; The "Aspect Affinity" Die Trait.
ASPECT AFFINITY DT 5pts
This trait indicates ones strength in the various aspects of the One Power; Earth Air, Fire, Water & Spirit. This trait may be taken multiple times(even as a Lifepath Trait if your LP grants it). Each time this Trait is purchased you gain a +1d bonus to casting Weaves that contain the Aspect(s). These bonuses stack for multiple affinities.
This trait also allows those strong in certain aspects to learn Weaves built on those aspects as a faster rate. learning time for any Weave containing 1 or more of the Aspects you have this trait for(And ONLY those aspects) is reduced by Half. For those Weaves containing 1 or more of your chosen aspects AND 1 or more aspects you do not have an affinity with, Learning time is cut by 1/4 of listed time. These effects do not stack; Whether you haveone affinity or multiples it's still 1/2 and 1/4.
Lack of this Trait does not incur a penalty.
Also, I'm thinking of making "Madness" an Emotional Attribute for Male Channelers...
As you can see I've spent a lot of time thinking about and working on this.
Please, more comments and help.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
POST 4

BORN LIFEPATHS
After attempting to work out my orginal idea for the various Born LPs based on your characters culture I realized I was going about it all wrong. Instead of having each Culture have it's own born LP(other than Aiel and Atha'an Meire) I've decided to make out a list of each culture and what Born LPs they can go into and a list of common Traits and Skills that represent the culture. These traits and skills can be purchased at character creation at the same cost as LP traits and skills even if they're not listed in any of the characters chosen Lifepaths. I'm thinking I may have to add a couple extra points to make this feasable though. What do you think?

Here's a WiP list of what I have so far.
-Aiel: refer to Aiel Setting
-Atha'an Meire: Refer to setting
-Altaran: Village, City, Noble; Poker Face
-Borderlander: Village, City, Noble; Ride, Mounted-Combat Training; Loyal
-Cairheinen: Village, City, Noble; Great Game-Wise; Poise, Scheming, Ambitious, Street-Smart, Condescending
-Domani: Village, City, Noble; Charming, Charismatic, Graceful, Street-Smart
-Illianer: Peasent, Village, City, Noble; Street Smart
-Midlander: Peasent, Village, City, Noble; Tough
-Tairen: Peasant, Village, City, Noble;
-Tar Valoner: City
-Taraboner: Peasent, Village, City, Noble

I need to finish thelist and add more Character Traits as well. Any suggestions would be helpful.

And here's some LP stuff I've worked up.

WHITE TOWER I have taken a few ques from Brantai's list but also changed a few things and added a lot
**All Aes Sedai are required to take the Bonded to the Oath Rod and Ageless traits

So that's what I currently have of LPs at the moment. I haven't really been working in any pattern. I'll work on a couple LPs then jump to a Trait and work on that.

Speaking of traits, What kind of trait would it be if all it did was add a New Belief revolving around that trait? DT? C-O? Character?

Okay, so I hope to have some more finished when next I post.

And please, if you have any ideas feel free to shout them out.

Ok, this isn't really a roleplaying thread. Not in the sense that people join and we RP through posts. But this is a roleplaying thread in that it's, well, a thread about roleplaying.

See, me and a group of friends are getting together to play a tabletop roleplaying game called The Burning Wheel. If you're into tabletop gaming, I suggest you take a look... it's a really good system. At any rate, we all came up with characters this saturday and in a few weeks we'll actually start playing. I figure I'd start writing the game out as a story, from my character's perspective. Or maybe not from his perspective, but definately write out the game happenings. It'll be fun, I think.

The world, as I understand it, goes something like this: Hundreds of years ago (maybe thousands, the GM hasn't decided really), the known world was conquered by the "Sword King", who unified everybody under one large Empire. Think Rome, sorta conquering all of the mediteranian region. After the Sword King's death, the Saint King (his son), founded what would be the base for the world's two major religions and spread it through the Empire. The Empire eventually started to fall apart, and there was a schism in religion. So now there are two religions, both with the same root religion, convinced that they're view is right and the other is wrong. Somewhere along the line the Sorcerer kings came to power (GM wasn't exactly clear on when or how). But these kings got too wrapped up in the persuit of magical knowledge, and let their kingdoms fall to ruin as they focussed on their own reasearch and goals.

So now you've got a number of independant kingdoms. Two of them are major kingdoms, each one beholden to a different side of the religious skism, that occasionally clash over idiology and the all important "holy lands". Yeah... think Muslims, Christendom, Crusades, you got it. There's also the nomadic steppe people (think Mongols) who live nearby and are fighting each other as much as they're fighting the kingdoms.

The introductory hook for the game is, in my opinion, fantastic. The barbarian steppe hordes have all banded together (thanks to some sorcerers desecrating the barbarian's holy something or anothers). They're intent on sacking the sorcerer's tower/academy thing, which happens to be on the other side of our kingdom. They will, of course, pillage and plunder everything along the way. To stop them, the king gatheres his army and personally leads it out to face the invading barbarian horde. And gets massacred. The King is dead, a large number of the nobility who were personally leading units into the fray are dead, and the army is shattered.

Our characters were all in the army in some capacity or another. There's the standard bearer, who was carrying the banner for a noble lord; the noble born military sergeant (who happens to be female and very touchy about the subject of male dominance); the child prodigy with unheard of magical aptitude, there with her master as part of the king's retinue or some such; the assassin, there to kill an important somebody (until the barbarians beat her to it); and the religious crusader, there with units of his Order to help protect the kingdom from heathin invasion.

And as the game opens we all find ourselves stuck in the very same ditch, hoping to survive the aftermath of the massacre and wondering what to do next.

Now, I still need a name, the all important name for my character. I'll come up with something before we actually start playing, but for now here's the backstory on "character X", my in-game alter ego:

He was born a peasant, and that's what he would have stayed had his god not chosen him for a higher purpose. At the age of nine his parents sent him to join the king's military, hoping it would, perhaps, lead to a better life. He stayed with the army for four years before leaving. Having seen what warfare was like at such a young age, he became a pilgrim to the holy lands, hoping to find meaning in the world and his place in it. Three years of journeying brought him the focus he desired (as well as a handy collection of religious relics). He had been sent to the military by his parents for a reason, so that he might learn the skills nessecary to help defend the faith, and with it the people of his kingdom. When he returned home he sought out one of the many religious orders that maintained military chapters, and joined the first one he found at the age of sixteen. After three years of service to the order, he's seen a lot of fighting, and is fanatically devoted to the Order. And, little does he know it, but his god has chosen him for a special purpose...

Basically, here's how it breaks down. In Burning Wheel you get to choose "lifepaths" that give you skills and traits. First lifepath was "peasant born", bringing him to eight years old. Take one year to move to the next lifepath, "professional foot soldier", where he stays for three years. Take another year to move to "village pilgrim" lifepath, where he stays for two years. Then take yet another year to transition to "Military Order", where he stays another three years and we get a character of nineteen years old as the game opens. Basically, he's a member of the Knights Templar. Or Knights Hospitaller. Or the Knights of Santiago... you get the idea.

His traits are something I can have fun with in-game... he's disciplined, from his time in the military. He's also a collector of holy relics, from his time as a pilgrim. Many, if not all, are no doubt fake. As one of the other group members says, "Just how many toes did saint ferdenand have?" Another of his traits is fanatical devotion, not just to his religion but to the military order he's served for the past few years, which is why his next trait is Sworn To The Order.

And, lastly, here's where "god's special purpose" comes in play... his last trait is "Aura of Martyrdom". I bought it on purpose. It means my character is going to die. This is a fact. He'll do it against hopeless odds, for a lost or religious cause, and in climactic moment that will take a long time to build up to. It's going to be glorious... and after he dies he becomes a saint, his body parts becoming holy relics. Cool, eh?

To paint you a picture, think of a dirty and war weary knight. He's young, but experienced, with just a hint of fanatacism in his eyes. He's dressed in full chain mail, with a decorative cloth tabbard (I think it's called a tabbard) over it. On this tabbard is emblazoned whatever we decide the holy symbol is. The tabbard is dirty and has a number of holes in it. He wears an open faced helmet, and holds a spear in his right hand. A well used shield is slung over his back, and a sword, sheathed, hangs from his left hip. His horse is unarmored, obviously not meant to be ridden into battle. It's a means of transportation, not a charger. Numerous personal posessions are packed into the various saddlebags and pouches strapped onto the horse.

Well, that's what he's got before the massacre. Afterwards, when he's running for his life, who knows what he'll have with him. Given what I know about the other characters, this promises to be a very interesting game indeed.
