Audrey's Sketchbook
(10 posts)-
As many of you know, I've been struggling with inspiration since art school, where I think I got a bit burned out.
I've bought a new sketchbook. I am leaving it out, open, on my most recent sketch, on the coffee table. This is a bid to get me to draw more often by it being there, staring at me, with pencil all ready to go.
So far, it's working well enough. Three random figures drawn at random points this week.
I think I'll try to do a sketch dump here once a week. They may make no sense, may be awful, and most certainly will be random.
Feedback is, as ever, welcome. Just be aware that I'm probably already aware of the oddness.

These are some of my thoughts:
Overall, I really like the girls. They're adorable :D. The guy sucks hardcore :P.
Laying down girl is really good. I like the pose, and the sense of action in the scene.
Standing girl is just adorable, although you did something a bit odd with her breasts. They're at the right height, I think, but you made them look like they're pointing -away- from her body. Love the skirt, tho'. You might consider drawing your arms just a teeny-tiny bit thicker. It doesn't seem quite right for the torso and legs to have normal sizing, but the arms to be so slender.
I've already told you all about the guy on AIM :P.

As ever, thanks for the thoughts, hon.
I'm not sure I agree with you on office chic's chest, but that's okay.
I've heard your reasons on the guy... I personally think I just need to work on how to stylize cartoon guys and still make them look masculine. Something I've struggled with for, well, pretty much EVER. I'll work on more guys this week.

Sketches for this last week- this time, men. Or at least, males. Been looking around at how some of my favorite cartoon style artists do men, and trying to translate it into my work.
I'm aware the one guy is rather effeminite looking- I guess I was playing with the borders between the features of the sexes, and also influenced by a book series I've read recently where there was a race that was both male and female in nature and looks.
The guy with the cloak is a little Harry Potter influenced, I think. Too much reading this weekend.
Final guy is just for something different. I'm trying to play with jaw lines, noses, and hair.
Thoughts are always welcome.
Sorry for the crappy scans, I cleaned them up as much as I could. This sketchbook is too big for our scanner, so there are lots of contrast issues. Bah.

And I just realized the three I picked out of my sketchpad all have the same facial expression. *sigh* So need to make myself do this more.

I like these guys a lot better, especially #2 and #3.
#2 is really great! I think you could've stood to make his shoulders broader, but I do like him.
#3 is really good except that you gave him a woman's collar on his shirt (I know it's stylized, but it looks quite feminine ;)), and a... uhh...
how shall I put this?
You gave him a woman-groin, I think :P. It could just be the way his legs are pinned tightly together, but something about his groin looks much more like the shape I would expect to see on a female character's pants in a stylized drawing. I think it's the lines on the left side that curve back up towards the waist, but again... I'm no artist, so maybe I'm just CRAZY!

Thanks for the thoughts, hon.
I'm working on it, that's for sure. Yeah, on #2- I will need to start working on male body types next. I think all the guys I ever drew in figure drawing were skinny! Half of them were in the Columbus Ballet though, so that's hardly surprising.
#3 was the Harry Potter inspired one- so yeah, the clothing is a bit odd.
I'm okay with that, why can't you be??
As for the woman groin... hmm. Yet another aspect of male anatomy I need to work on. And halariously enough, I had a serious adversion to drawing that area all through school, (Okay, I was prude.) I'll... um... work on it?
Thanks for the crit!

Yeah, I was (am) a prude, but I've come out of my shell a lot. Fun sketches, Aud. Can't wait to see more.

This week has been certifiably insane- got called in to work on location three days in addition to my usual work load- so I didn't have much time to sketch. I'll work on catching up and posting something here ASAP. in the meantime... off to celebrate the 2 year anniversary with Gumshoe.

Still catching up- freelance attacked me with a HUGE stick this last couple of weeks. With the move coming up soon, I can't promise anything. That said, I'll see what I can do before the end of the month. After that, life should calm down again.
