OK, Mark, your turn. Let me know if there is something you want me to change...

“Damn,†Ashira mumbled as she looked down in dismay at her once clean uniform. She reached for a napkin to try and clean up. “of course I’d make a mess today.â€
“Why do you say that? Just because you have your yearly evaluation before the board today,†Fink said as he sipped his coffee, the drink that Ashira had just spilled on herself.
"Wipe that smug look off your face, you still have to pass your 3 month eval,†Ash said as she dabbed at her blue uniform. “At least the uniform is relatively dark.†As she put down her napkin she looked at her partner across the table. He had pale green eyes and brown hair with a lean build but still had enough muscle to knock down a two hundred and fifty pound man in one kick. An impressive feat by Ashira’s standards when she saw him do just that.
He just might actually last as my partner, Ash thought. For the last year Ash had been going through partners left and right. No one could keep up with her when she was on a case, and they generally quite before their 3 month evaluation. Fink, on the other hand, had managed to keep up with her, more or less. The only person who had ever been able to keep with Ash had been kicked out of the Bureau of Magical Affairs. And he was actually the one who made Ashira keep up with him. He had been kicked off the force about a year ago for illegally tampering with ways to use stronger magic than he was actually capable of using. Most of the time however, the tampering did not work and ended up landing Ashira and Lyton in more trouble than it was worth, no matter how good his intentions. In the end he did something that got him fired.
“Copper for your thoughts?†asked Fink.
“You’d probably be paying to much for them then,†Ash replied with a snort.
“Still, what were you thinking about just then?" Fink asked with concern.
“Just a thought to match of course,†Ashira said with a shrug of her thin shoulders. Fink just raised an eyebrow and waited for her to answer his question. Ash ignored him and glanced down at her timekeeper. She had just enough time left in her break to walk back to Headquarters before her evaluation.
“Let’s head back, it is almost time,†Ash said.
Sighing because he knew he was not going to get an answer out of her, Fink got up with Ash and left some money on their table for their drinks, “Yeah, okay.â€
After walking out the door to the little café, they entered the press and flow of people that made up everyday life of Serai. With hover cars zipping past on the street and shop owners crying their wares, there was no point to trying to have a decent conversation, which was fine with Ashira. She needed to prepare for her evaluation.
Unobtrusively, so no one would see her slight hand gestures, Ashira firmed up the illusion she kept around herself at all times; around her magic. The evaluation would test her control of her magic and to judge her ability to still be a useful working tool of the force. She had no concern about her ability to perform up to standards. After all, she had been doing just that since she joined five years ago.
Ashira also seemed to have an uncanny knack for catching some of the harder to trace criminals. Part of why she had not had a steady partner for the last year. Ashira tended to take the hard and dirty way to her target, rather than go the soft and easy route most people paired with a magic user expected. Lyton got her into that habit.
Most of the buildings they passed on their way to the headquarters of the Magic Force were only a couple of stories on narrow lanes. Headquarters however was taller and could be seen from a longer distance away. In a few minutes, Ashira and Fink were up the front steps and in the door.
As they entered, Lorand, another member of the force, called out, “Ash, wait up!†Ashira waived Fink on to their pair of desks and waited for Lorand to catch up.
“Hey, how’s it going?†Ashe asked of the stocky man.
“Eh, you know how it is when working the beat. And to top it off Rena's been out sick,†Lorand made a disgusted face. “But that isn’t here nor there at the moment. I just wanted to wish you luck on your evaluation. I know how much they shake you.â€
“Thanks,†Ash said with a small smile of gratitude. "I hope Rena gets better soon, It really does bite not having your partner around when there is alot of work to get done."
"You would know wouldn't you? What number does that poor sap make now? Four or five?" Lor asked with a laughing tone.
Grimacing Ash replied, "He is the sixth actually." Casting a glance at her timekeeper again Ash said hurridly, “I’d better get going though else I will be late. That’s the last thing I need right now.†With a wave, Ash headed for her desk to get the papers she needed, her evaluation of herself.
“What did Lor want?†asked Fink, looking up from his leftover paperwork from their last case.
“To wish me luck, he has done that every year since I started. Kind of looks after me like a little sister or some such. Is the coffee stain noticeable?â€
“No, but you hair is all over the place,†he replied with a joking twinkle in his eye.
“Ha, you’re just saying that. Well here goes. See you later.â€
“See you and good luck.â€
When she was out of Fink’s sight however, Ashira ducked into a restroom just to make sure her white blond hair looked neat in its braid down her back. It did, now to go to the evaluation room.
The eval room was on the top floor behind a big oaken door that had numerous enchantments laid upon it, for the protection of those not in the room. It only took a minute or so for Ash to get to the room and she paused to take in the door using her magic senses as well as her eyes. She marveled at the intricacies she saw and sensed. She saw the numerous enchantments actually carved into the door in the rolling scroll work of the Old Tongue, and her magic senses recoiled from the feeling of the great power it took to enchant that door.
Taking a deep breath she knocked and the door swung silently inward. She stepped into the darkened chamber.

OOC...
Ok, I'll force myself to post. But I can't promise anything about the quality.

Lyton crouched down, one knee resting on the warehouse's grime covered floor. He wasn't sure what was stored here, aside from the fact that it was stored in giant metal containers. Could've been anything, really. Not that it mattered. His immediate concern was the stuff currently spattered all over the outside of those enormous containers.
Blood, if he had to guess. It smelled right - a coppery, tangy sort of smell. It was the right color, too. Dark, oozing red. Taking off one of his gloves, he poked a finger into a small pool of stuff. Still warm. He'd gotten to the scene just a little too late... again. Heaving a sigh, he wiped his finger on a cloth and looked around. It was the same as the last two. Complicated runes had been etched into the concrete floor, forming a rough circle around the scene. A few had even been inscribed on the sides of the metal containers, which was new. In the other scenes, the walls had been left bare.
In the middle of it all was something that had at one time been a person. It was barely recognizable as such, having been badly burned. He'd had to physically go through the remains the first time, and while he was no forensics expert he could tell that at least a few of the limbs had been removed prior to the corpse being burned. Thanks to the use of a few investigative spells he'd also been able to tell that the flame had been magical in origin.
Lyton stood. "I'll get you yet," he said, wondering if the perpetrator had left any magical triggers behind. Some criminals did that. They'd go off when the scene was discovered, and mostly just served as an alert that their work had been discovered.
Concentrating, he began using hand gestures as well as softly spoken words to weave a complicated spell. It was one of the thing's he'd learned while at the Bureau Of Magical Affairs, an enchantment to help him track down the one responsible for this latest atrocity. The last few times he'd tried it, something had blocked his efforts, giving him only a vague notion of where his quarry was. Whoever they were, they knew just the right tricks.
"Lyton!"
Lyton's concentration broke immediately, the fine tapestry of magic that he'd woven falling apart in a heartbeat. He looked back over his shoulder and saw his accomplice, Vianka, walking quickly towards him. "What is it?"
"Cops," Vianka said tersely. They shared a look, and Lyton nodded. They'd been set up... whoever this guy was, he knew Lyton was after him, and he'd arranged for the police to drop by. Just what Lyton needed, to get arrested at a crime scene like this. Especially after what he'd been kicked off the police force for...
The two made for one of the warehouse's side exits, Lyton's hand resting lightly on the heavy pistol he carried inside his jacket. Luckily Vianka pushed the door open without any difficulty, and he didn't have to resort to shooting out the lock. The alley beyond was quiet, with no signs of a police ambush. The two made their exit and casually slipped away into the city.
Back in the warehouse, two police officers stood aghast at the scene they'd just discovered. Blood was splattered everywhere, as if somebody had been flinging it about. Or, judging by the charred pile of ashes, as if somebody had exploded. "Get forensics," one of the officers said grimly. "We'll need a full workup on this. With any luck, we can track down whoever was here last..."
