Work In Progress, Lyton Aeros, Jedi, Character Sketch
(16 posts)-
This is so... very... in progress. Anyway, this is a totally digital sketch, and I'm starting in on a new coloring technique. I need background suggestions. And I need to actually color it.
But for the first drawing I've done in pratically two months, I guess I'm not too displeased.
This is Mark's Jedi character from the story we're writing over at Star Wars Epics- it's about Jedi running from the Empire just after Order 66.
Anyway.
If you see anything glaringly wrong, now would be a wonderful time to point it out. Thanks guys!

Not bad... his boots look a little "Jetsons" though

lol. Those are directly from the reference image Mark gave me for the outfit- I rather agree.
Mark's decided he feels the pose is very ambigious- meaning he's not entirely sure what he's doing, or if it's the end or beginning or middle of an action. I think he's kind of right.
Janus feels that the hands look like they're at odd angles, and had a similar comment about the boots "not being my style."
Hrm. Maybe I'm going back to the drawing board on this one.

The thing about posing a Jedi is to give them a static pose... In which you're not sure what they're doing... A Hand out, a saber pointed, etc.
For double Sabers I'd go with something maybe like this:

maybe looking off to the side or something

lol. So you're saying I'm actually on the right track? Hmmm..... I might ask Mark to look around for a pose he likes and do some more sketching.
This is the reference he gave me to start with. Hmm.

Edit:
Talking with Mark, he says the pose makes a lot more sense now that he's acting it out. the right arm is going to bring the saber by his shoulder in a sweep down and across, and the back left arm will be thrusting forward--- it's a cut stab combo, or at least I was hoping it was.... maybe some saber light trails would help?

I reccomend DA stock poses. Jademacalla has some good ones

Also, give the boots more detail. those are straps, not ridges

Lol. Thanks Derek. I've actually been using this guy for reference: http://jademacalla.deviantart.com/
He did a Jedi series, and this is one of his, somewhat loosely.
And you're totally right about the straps. That's what I get for being lazy and not thinking of the obvious.
Course, I am talking to a detail fiend. lol. Still thinking I'm going to do a take two.

Yeah, I used one of his poses for Elias
Also, the Key to a Jedi is either completely static pose or full-out action. Nothing inbetween works.
Here's the pose I worked up, if you don't mind:

Still the same action, but more... Majestic I guess. And completely static
I'm sure Mark will pose for you to take a picture.

Still working on this. I haven't had a lot of time to draw lately, but at least I'm attempting.
These are the "slightly better than stick figures" frames I generally start with. Mark likes a few.

Hm. What about a pose... which I'm not sure I can even describe...
Something like where he's standing slightly crouched, with one saber held behind his back so that the blade is at about waist height, and horizontal. The other blade is held in front of him in a slightly 'on guard' position, like maybe slightly pointed 'towards the camera' as it were.
I know it's totally nonsensical, but that's what popped into my head when I saw those stick figures :D.
